Music This Week Sept 16th thru Sept 22nd

Hey there,
WOW! That’s about all ! have energy left to say about Lockn’. What an incredible party. We had to fit four days of music into three days and unfortunately one of my favorites, Little Feat didn’t make the cut. I’m sure you know by now there was a micro burst storm on last Wed at Lockn’ which caused enough damage they had to cancel Thursday’s shows. They made up for it by going late. I believe Umphrey’s McGee went until about 4:30 am Sat morning and no one I spoke to knew when Gov’t Mule quit playing Sun morning. I was at the perfect place to hear both the late shows from my tent. I’ll post the shows sometime this week. Do not miss the festival next year, it is always the show of the year.
Something that happens far too often, we lost another bright star in our musical family. On Sept 4th Paul Scales passed. Paul was the frontrman for the long running Shadow Executives. Paul sang, played keys and was one of the best harmonica players around. He was always ready to help others as exemplified by the fact he was scheduled to play at the Athens Human Rights Festival fundraiser this Fri at Terrapin Beer Co. Something a lot of y’all didn’t know was that Paul was one of the co-founders of the original 40 Watt Club on College Ave. Paul my friend you are loved and will be greatly missed.
Fortunately I know a few musicians and I was very lucky on such short notice to get another fine band to play at the fundraiser. I am very pleased to announce Croma Zone (sometimes spelled differently). They were playing at a private festival I was at before Lockn’ and blew me away. The first song I thought was a deep cover of Shadowfax (the Windham Hill jazz band not Gandalf’s horse) the second I thought was from Cyrille Verdeaux (founder of Clearlight and composer of the Kundalini Operas, a force in the early French acid underground). Both were original Croma Zone songs.
So y’all please come out Friday to Terrapin Beer Co starting at 5:30 pm.and expect a great time. While you are there please raise a glass in remembrance of Paul.
I’ll be there so you know what that means – FREE HUGS!!!
Here is some interesting eye candy, starts slow but really looks cool.

There is a lot of great music in town this week. The only ones I’m sure I’kll be at are the AHRF fundraiser with Croma Zone on Fri (possibly Karl Denson who blew me away at Lockn’ with Earphunk and The Main Squeeze after the fundraiser) and Cosmic Charlie on Sat.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,
