Music This Week May 30th thru June 5th and two great benefit shows this week

Hey there,
I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday.
Here is a video of the greatest ‘air’ guitar ever!
I may have already posted this but it is still cool glass art.
We have two important benefit / fundraiser shows this week, the first one is for Pigpen Studios. I have a lot more info at the end of this email about that. The second to help offset the medical expenses of Athens’ public school teacher Jan Tibbett . Both shows feature outstanding musicians I highly recommend.

Wed I’ll be recording Mama’s Love and Lefty Hathaway’s CD release party. I had planned on being at Adam Kline’s show but this was a prior commitment. If they are still playing I’ll try to catch the end of Bobby Shorts, I’ve heard good and bad about this band so I need a tie breaker. Thurs is really tough, I really want to see Geoff Achison and Yonrico they are definitely one of my favorites (I’m hoping I can talk a friend with a new recorder to do that show for me) I’ll be supporting the Pigpen Studio benefit.  Fri I’ll start with Robin Rutenberg, a new one for me. Then to Yo Mama’s Big Fat booty Band. Sat is probably a road trip for Abbey Road LIVE! if not I’ll go to Manray. I’ll try to make the Tibbett Fundraiser Festival  on Sun. Mon one of my favorites, Big C’s Blues Night. Tues I’ll catch the 1st set of Ike’s then to Seth Winters, he is a great guitarist.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,
Here is more info on Pigpen Studios, sent to me by Daniel Peiken:

Hey Folks, I’m trying to help Leah help Pigpen Studios so I am forwarding her message to you.
Pigpen is facing losing it’s studio. They are going to try to put together a fundraiser to help.
Can you help? Daniel

Dear Athens bands,

My name is Leah Salguero. I’m good friend of Daniel Collins. He is in danger of losing Pigpen. He had a ballon note that his ex-wife was on, she does not want to continue to be on the note. The note was due on May 8, 2012. Daniel is self employed, it is harder for him to refinance. However, it is possible that the property could be refinanced under Daniel’s name. In order to do this Daniel would need approximately $10,000 for an appraisal, Environmental Review, and other upfront financing cost. We are diligently trying to raise this money, in order to begin the refinancing process. I am writing today to see if your band could help him any way.

I have attached a letter that I’m also sending to someone about the situation. It may help explain it to you.

I’m putting together a benefit to try to raise some money to help keep Pigpen alive. Could you possible play at this show? The dates are June 2nd @ Max Canada and May 31st @ GA Theater. At least this is what I’m going for. Let me know if these dates would work for your band. The show would need to be this month. A Saturday night would be great, but I know that may not be possible. I’m wanting to make this a few day event.

Having this show will help bring some attention to what is going on,
and in hopes make the bank more willing to work with Daniel. Athens
Banner Herald and Flagpole will do a story on this once we have all
the details together. Look how much money was raised when the GA
Theater caught on fire. Without the help of everyone, bring the GA
Theater back to life may not have been possible. I view Daniel
situation the same way. I’m working on this for Daniel at this time
because he has more less given up, so please contact me with what you
think may work or any questions.

If you have any ideas, suggestions, or know any other bands that may want to play,
please let me know!

Also please feel free to view his page at Make sure to click on “About Us” to get a feel for who Daniel is!
