Music This Week Jan 7th thru Jan 13th

Hey there,
WOW!!! They saved the best for last. The Revivalists at GA Theatre NYE was the best show of the year. Two hours of non-stop high energy music for a sold out audience that seemed to know and sang every word of every song. Rarely do you see a show where everyone was so in tune with the band. Even better was watching the band having as much fun as we did. I was so proud to be from Athens. Larkin Poe opened with a fantastic  set. They were followed by AJ Ghent who really cranked up the energy on his 8-string guitar. Even David Shaw from The Revivalists said he couldn’t get AJ’s Purple Rain out of his head. It is posted, check it out. Ralph Roddenbery’s show was killer, he needs to come to Athens more often. His show is also posted. Big C’s Blues Jam last night was epic, I should have it posted later tonight.
With school starting and everyone regrouping from New Year’s blowout, it is a light schedule of music but still some real good shows. My best bets for this week are The Other Brothers Band on Wed. (Didn’t get tickets to see Gregg Allman, don’t fret, these guys will make you think Gregg, Warren and the rest are there). Also check out Kenosha Kid on Fri.I also have a good feeling about Runaway Gin on Sat. (About time for a Phish tribute band).
I’m starting to experience football withdrawals.
On a sad note the GA Bar, Green Room and New Earth Music Hall all closed their doors.
