Music This Week Oct 15th thru Oct 21st

Hey there,
I may not be able to post this next week but really want you to know about some shows next week. For several years I have been following and supporting an incredible jazz band with a  unique sound. Jonathan Scales Fourchestra is an example of musical sincerity. Weaving together collective and individual influences without compromise, they are as much themselves as they are a unit—a crucial trait of landmark instrumental ensembles. Steel pannist and founder Jonathan Scales’ compositional skill mixes with tasteful, avant-garde improvisations to form a totally unique approach to an instrument often associated with cruise ships and tropical music. Driftwood Magazine says “Scales is to steel pans ….what Béla Fleck is to the banjo—an über innovator.”
I’m sure you know I didn’t write that. What I’d say is this is a band that performs at a level of Kenosha Kid or Odd Trio, masters of their craft. Definitely check them out.
They will finally be back in Athens Oct 23rd for a late night GA Theatre Rooftop show. A real Don’t Miss. (You don’t know how much it bums me that I’m not in town then). I still haven’t figured out how to clone myself, I’d love it if someone would record it for me.
The same goes for Caroline Aiken’s shows the next day Oct 24th. Caroline will be on UGA’s It’s Friday with her full band Catch a C.A.B. (Eddie Glikin, Michelle Castleberry, Adam Poulin, Doug Peters, Ron Crescenti, Richie Jones) with Betsy Franck opening. 8 p 8 adv
It will also be the launch of her Indigogo campaign for BROKEN WINGS HEAL, her new recording with John Keane to be released in Europe in Feb and USA in March.
There will be an Electric Gibson guitar and other cool stuff for a silent auction to benefit Guitars Not Guns (www.guitarsnotguns.org)  music program for kids at risk.
BTW Caroline also has an open mike at New Earth every Weds. 7-9 pm.
Also bummed I’ll miss Kenosha Kid doing a psychedelic surf-jazz show this Thurs.
I guess I’ll just have to party harder to make up for all the losses back home. I think I’m up to it. Look for me at:
