Music This Week Feb 19th thru Feb 25th

Hey there,
This will be another quickie. AURA was fantastic. The only thing remotely negative was Kung Fu was snowed in up north and could not make it to the festival and I was really looking forward to their shows. It was cold a couple of nights but I’m sure it was still a lot better than the weather here. Athens was not represented very well as there were only about a dozen of us there. My favorite shows were The Revivalists, the Werks, Mike Dillon Band, Stokeswood, Cope and Lotus. Mark your calendar for next year it is a definite Don’t Miss festival with some of the best festival group vibe of the year.

Music This Week Feb 5th thru Feb 11th

Hey there,
Important info on the 36th Annual Athens Human Rights Festival.
We will meet every Thursday at 6:00pm at Nuci’s Space not Tuesday.
Update, tonight’s Project Safe benefit show with Carl Lindberg has been expanded. He will be joined by the incredible Kyshona Armstrong and Gro/Conscious (members of Latin-jazz group Grogus and dub-reggae ensemble DubConscious).
A lot of shows this week to choose from. This is the time of year a lot of new local talent starts to appear. I can’t be everywhere, trust me I’ve tried, so if you catch any outstanding shows please let me know,
My Don’t Miss shows for the week are JGBCB and Lazy Locomotive, Abbey Road Live!, the band will perform “The Beatles 1962-1966” in its entirety., Col. Bruce Hampton, Tia Madre,  Rollin’ Home and Ralph Roddenberry.
I really hope General Beau Lee (our local groundhog) was right. He didn’t see his shadow so spring is near. Great news since I’ll be camping at AURA next week. Speaking of AURA, Athens again benefits from it as a number of bands stop through here on their way to or from there. Anyone needing a ride back let me know. I’m heading down early to visit a dear friend, Lynn. She is undergoing chemotherapy and won’t be able to go to the show. Please send health and healing thoughts her way.
My favorites from last week were Kenosha Kid (ever though one of Robby’s bass petals blew up during one of my favorite tunes, Mechanical Hound) and last night’s Blues Jam with Big C, Andrew  G. continues to amaze.
