Music This Week Jan 29th thru Feb 4th

Hey there,
Yesterday the world’s music community lost a shining light, Pete Seeger. He was 94 and still performing until a few years ago. He was a key figure in American folk music and was involved in the civil rights movement, pacifism and environmentalism. If you don’t know who he was I’m sure you recognise his music; Where Have All the Flowers Gone, If I Had a Hammer, Turn! Turn! Turn!, and the one that inspired the naming of countless bongs, Puff The Magic Dragon. He will be missed. Peace and love Pete.
This week is a fairly light one for music so fortunately the snow shouldn’t impact too many shows.
I was out of town most of last week so the only show I caught was the Alzheimer’s Fest. I got home at 3:30 am Sun morning and recorded from noon until 9:30 pm. I wasn’t going to miss that show.  I hope to have it posted this week. My highlight was watching Fester Hagood’s baby getting excited and trying to snap her fingers while her daddy played.

Music This Week Jan 22nd thru Jan 28th

Hey there,
Wow, another week of great music in Athens. We have two events that are celebrating their 2nd anniversary, the Camp-In at 40 Watt and FreekFest at New Earth. We have two benefits, Project Safe at New Earth and one that very important to me, the Alzheimer’s Music Fest at the Melting Point. My mama had Alzheimer’s disease. I know all too well how devastating a disease it is.
We have some great out-of-towners this week. We have the legendary Ladysmith Black Mambazo and I am really looking forward to The Ringers with Oli Brown. If you haven’t heard Oli check him out on my site, he was one of my favorites from Wanee last year.
Speaking of out-of-towners, I have finally finished posting Hulaween. I could not have done it without the help of Joshua Kaster who split and tagged the shows (we are working on Bear Creek now). Joshua lives in Jacksonville, FL. I wish I could find someone in Athens to help split and tag our local Athens music. Check out Hulaween at: http://livemusicathensga.com/hulaween/
I would also like to thank Jay Braver at Athens Videography for his help making the web site more user friendly. You can now search just the music ibrary and not the whole site and we have a much improved calendar of past posts. Jay is at: http://athensvideography.com/
My favorites from last week were the Athens Nurses Clinic Benefit, Dank Sinatra and Halem Albright.
BTW anyone notice that the two teams in the Super Bowl are from the only states  to ratify recreational use of marijuana? Coincidence or the Munchie Mafia at work? Call your congressman, lets get the Falcons back in the Super Bowl!
