Music This Week Jan 31st thru Feb 5th

Hey there,
Thank you for all the kind words and support, my head is in a much better place now. The memorial for Craig last night really helped. I saw a sticker a few years back on a baby carriage at the AHRF festival (the 35th one coming up May 4th & 5th) it said ‘We are not human beings having a spiritual experience, we are spiritual beings having a human experience’. That really resonated within me and helps me cope in times like these. It is funny, I went to the memorial to comfort Melinda and Craig’s family and I was the one comforted when Melinda told me that Craig knew I was his biggest fan. Just knowing Craig knew how much I loved and admired him and his music somehow provided closure for me. It also brings home the fact that we should never miss an opportunity to tell others how much they are loved. I love you all. I have tonight’s Guitar Summit dedicated to Craig and the memorial at 40 Watt Sat to get through but now I can focus on celebrating everything Craig brought into this world and all the lives he touched and made better.
This week is full of great music, unfortunately most of it on the same days. Tonight for example. I’ll be at the Guitar Summit then at Bad Tempered Rabbit. I’ll miss Cal Lindberg and Betsy Frank’s show and I really wanted to check out the Zappa tribute band at New Earth (Zappa was one of my favorites, he actually spoke to me twice from the stage). If I can I will get someone to record these shows for me.
Here is something to watch. My friend Darrin Cook has a Youtube channel cosmicsponge2000 and has a lot of entertaining music and videos. Enjoy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQyIp1Ngcpk  reminds me of parts of Zappa’s 200 Motels

Attention musicians! Posters and Art wanted for display on The Vampire Diaries

Hey there,
My friend Georgeanne Olive who works on the show, ‘The Vampire Diaries’ sent me the following info. There is a short time frame on this so don’t dawdle. An incredible opportunity to see your posters and art work on a TV show. Good Luck.
Peace and Love,
Kurt
MUSICIANS!!! FLYERS WANTED!!!!
I live in Athens, but am working on the show, ‘The Vampire Diaries’, in Atlanta. I am the Buyer for Set Dressing. We are doing a set in early February (Very early February…the schedule has been moved up a week…so now I just have a few days to gather these) that is going to be patterned after the legendary NYC music club, CBGB. The club was completely plastered with years and years worth of band posters. I would like to invite Athens’ AND Austin AND other bands to be a part of our decor and to send me posters, stickers and other band souvenirs to use on our set.I will have to have each person, or their representative give me their name, phone, email address, etc and our art department coordinator will follow up with having them sign a release form. If posters or flyers have original art work, I will also need the name of the artist or the source the art came from. That is always required by our legal department.I really want to see my musician friends represented and visible on the screen on ‘The Vampire Diaries’. Also, please spread the word….that helps too!

If you are interested, please email me (georgeanneolive@yahoo.com) and I will give you information on how to submit your posters and flyers!!

THANKS!!

I have some good news and some devastatingly bad news

Hey there,
I have some good news and some devastatingly bad news.
First the good, I missed listing what should be a really great show Sat at Nowhere Bar around 10pm. As you know the hardest thing for musicians to do is think up  a name for the band, second hardest thing is remembering the name as they are usually in so many different bands. These guys resolved both problems by using their names which between all them they usually can remember. So definitely check out Nic Wiles, Andrew G, Drew Hart and Matt Shirley. at Nowhere this Sat.
Now for the devastatingly bad news (I had the above info ready to post when I found this out). My dear friend and incredible human being Craig Lieski has passed. This just in from Flagpole:http://flagpole.com/blogs/homedrone/posts/local-musician-craig-lieske-has-died-1
Flagpole has received the very sad news that local musician Craig Lieske has passed away, reportedly due to an aneurysm. Lieske, who was a member of local improv-rock group Garbage Island, as well as a member of the Drive-By Truckers’ touring crew, contributed his talents to countless other local bands during his many years in Athens.
Lieske was 48. We’ll update with details on a memorial service as they arrive. In the meantime, we’ll be publishing a memorial in next week’s issue. Please send thoughts and remembrances to music@flagpole.com by Monday morning.
I am in a state of shock. The world has lost an incredible person and a stellar musician. His Garbage Island and Echo Canyon ensembles were as good as it gets and were always a Don’t Miss. Craig has provided me with some of my most cherished recordings and some of the best music I’ve ever experienced. My real regret on Wed was I had commitments to record other shows and had to miss what was his last show (if I had that clone I would definitely have been at Craig’s show). Please join me in sending Peace, Love, Strength and Healing vibes to Melinda and for all Craig’s family and friends..
Craig you are loved and you will be forever missed. Happy Trails.
Peace and Love,
Kurt

Music This Week Tonight Jan 16th thru Jan 22nd

Hey there,
Wow what a day and night! It started with the words “Your case is dismissed. You are free to go” at the Jackson Co. courthouse, I was fighting a $213  ticket for not completely stopping at a stop at 2:30 am coming back from a show. Tonight is a mad house for scheduling with about 6 don’t miss shows and so far I haven’t any clones.
I’m really having a time with the Flagpole’s new format. It comes out late Tues and only goes out a week which really causes havoc with my scheduling.
This is a new format for the email with less info, please let me know which y’all prefer, last weeks with more band info or this one.

I’m not sure of my schedule this week. I am under self imposed house detention as I have pink eye, probably hard to diagnose due to chronic red eye. I won’t go out until I am no longer contagious. I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,
Kurt
