Music This Week Aug 29th thru Sept 4th

Hey there,
I’ll start with some great news. You may know I am on the Athens Human Rights Festival committee. I have set up two fund raisers at Terrapin Beer Co. the first one is Fri Sept 28th. I can’t tell you how excited I am that COSMIC CHARLIE will be performing! These guys have been playing together for 13 years and as a bona fide Deadhead, I can assure you this will be a DON’T MISS show. .
This week marks the start of another of my passions, football. A lot of y’all may not care about football but you need to factor in the fact that there will be around 100,000 people in town and that will definitely impact traffic and parking.
This video should give you an insight as to my feelings about the previous news:
In case you haven’t seen this:

This week will insure I remain totally sleep deprived. Wed is the trifecta, I will catch Breathlanes 1st set, then I never miss Garbage Island and will end up at Lazy Locomotive.
Thurs is another show I never miss, the Odd Trio, after that I’ll go to Sweet Knievel (I also want to check out Bobby’s Shorts) that didn’t sound right, I meant I want to hear Bobby’s Shorts, I’m always ready to hear Grateful Dead music. Fri is tough, I really like Modern Skirts but Snarky Puppy only comes around a couple times a year so I’ll start there and definitely will be at Efren’s show. It will be the final Efren show with the current rhythm section, Jamie and Darrin are going on to another project, more about that later. Sat is tough I may not be in town but if I am I’ll catch the Eight Ball show as I had technical difficulties with their inaugural show (it’s in the archives, check it out) so I hope to record their second show. Sun I really want to catch the Ricky Smith fundraiser. (what a great lineup) but I don’t have a good record with getting to shows in the middle of the day. Mon is no problem, definitely Big C’s Blues Night is a Don’t Miss. Tues I am going to try, as it seems I always try and fail, to see Ike but just like this week I’m busy doing this email when Ike is playing. I may be late with this email next week.
Finally, a sneak preview of next week’s email, Kenosha Kid will be taking up residency at Highwire all Sept.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,

Music This Week Aug 21st thru Aug 28th

Hey there,
I want to start off with news some of you know but it never hurts to be sure you know about one of my favorite band’s predicament. Cosmic Charlie’s touring van and trailer was demolished by a tree falling on it. The van was a total loss and you guessed it, the insurance company weaseled out saying it was an Act of God. Personally I think the insurance company should have to prove the existence of God before placing blame. They have a Kickstarter program to help with the cost of replacing the van:

Please help them any way you can, money is best but if nothing else please pass the word around to as many people as you can. They don’t get anything if they don’t hit their $5,000 goal. Thank you for any and all help.
Next, Facebook or FaceCrack as some call it. I have been receiving a number of Friend requests on my new Facebook account, Thank you but I only have that account to enable me to create a Facebook account for LiveMusicAthensGA. I don’t use my personal account (someone offered to help me with that and I’ll wait until she has time to help, all things in their time) so I’m not answering Friend requests. It’s not you it’s me. Long story so you can skip it if bored. I signed up for eHarmony a few years ago late on a Fri night. I answered all questions honestly without embellishing anything. I actually thought it did a very good job of classifying me (wants, needs, direction, etc) so I quit for the night. I went back to look at my profile on Sun and found it had been posted and there were nearly 50 responses. One person send three, in the last one she was real mad because I hadn’t responded. All seemed to be from people who were desperate to be married, as that would somehow validate them as a person, definitely not what I was looking for ( I’m looking for a strong woman who already is her own person and doesn’t need validation) It’s not that I have anything against marriage, been there, done that, got half  the T-shirts (it was an amiable split we took turns selecting the T-shirts). Anyway I immediately closed the account. I’m not sure what to expect with Facebook, I’m just not ready to go further without guidance.
Finally, you may have noticed one of the Athens musicians hasn’t been seen all summer, Brent Hedrick quit his job at the Globe and left for Colorado to help combat the forest fires. The last I’ve heard he is well and in Montana fighting the forest fires there. Please join me in wishing him a safe return.

Ike Stubblefield and Friends  Hendershot’s Coffee Bar 8pm

Another great week of music, fortunately my friend Sloan will be recording a number of shows so I will be able to hear the shows I’ll miss while recording elsewhere. Tonight I am going to Ike Stubblefield’s show then to Adam Payne & Triz (my first time to see Triz). Wed is hectic with two Don’t Miss shows John Miley’s breathlanes and Craig Lieske’s Echo Canyon. I’ll start recording at Breathlanes, leave my recorder there and go to Echo Canyon. Depending on when I have to retrieve my recorder I may have time to catch Dial Indicators. Thurs is another monster night, Isince Sloan is doing both Drive-By shows (probably 80 – 90% of all Drive-By recordings are from Sloan) I’ll start with Low Tyed then to Dan Nettles, then to Higher Learning, gemNeye, ending with Lazy Locomotive, a new group of good friends I’m really looking forward to hearing. Fri I’ll be starting with Kenny- Blackmon then to Eddie and Public Speakers. Sat I highly recommend starting with Whisper Kiss & The Hobohemians but no way I’ll be there at 8AM! I’ll be at Abbey Road LIVE! then to Showtime & Lowdive. Sun definitely be at the Nuci’s Space show at MP @ 5PM and hope to catch some of Blues at Ten Pins. Mon Thomas Wynn. Tues I’ll try for Grogus, then to Scott, Ty and Kelly at New Earth ending up at GATH rooftop show with Grass Giraffes & Abandon the Earth Mission.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,

Hey there,
This just in from Ann Lily Woodruff at Canopy Studio.
There is a show this Fri 8pm and Sat at 8pm, it is call Flow, A Summer Circle Celebration.  We will have various aerial pieces and floor work.  Highlights of the show include a dance trapeze, chain, lyra, hoop dance, modern dance, zils, fan veil, poi, and vertical pole dance.  My little girls will open the show on Cloud Swing, a complicated aerial fabrics apparatus, and the show will close with an outdoor fire and pole dance show.  Tickets are available at for $10.  The show should finish early enough to make it downtown by 10pm.
This is a Don’t Miss. I’ll probably catch the Fri show.

Tonight highlights the need for a clone to go to shows I can’t get to as I am scheduled elsewhere. Fortunately tonight I have the good fortune that Sloan (Southern Shelter, Athens oldest and best music archive) will be recording Craig Lieske’s show while I will be at Breathlanes. Both shows are a Don’t Miss. I am so far behind I’m not sure where I will be the rest of the week. I hope to catch the Broadcast Thurs, Showtime Fri, Kyshona Sun and Ike Tues but the Four Thieves usually ask me to record them so not sure about Tues.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,

Hey there,
I haven’t had time to post any new shows for download and probably won’t until after the Olympics are over. I’m a sports junkie, especially the Olympics. I used to be a jock until I became a hippie. UGA actually wanted me to be on the swimming team but I just couldn’t see shaving my legs to go faster. They also wanted me to be on the rifle team but you had to be in ROTC and that definitely wasn’t for me. I was a really strong cyclist but couldn’t afford a competition bike. I did however win silver in individual and gold in team completion in the Inaugural Hippie Olympics but that is something I’ll tell you about in private if you are interested.
Here are some videos I found interesting:

Another full week of great music. Wed I would usually be at Kenosha Kid’s show but I am going to Craig Lieske’s  show with Killick and others. Craig will be doing Wed residency all month @ Flicker.Thurs I haven’t made up my mind, I’m leaning toward Aradhna since I can catch the others 5 bands later. Fri I’m going to  Chronic Funk Circus. Sat is a tough one, I really support everything they do at Girls Rock Athens Showcase but Ike’s show @ Melting Point is hard to pass up and will probably be there. Mon is definitely Big C’s Blues night and I’ll try to catch as much of Carl Lindberg’s show as I can before that. Tues I really want to be at Ike’s show but it seems I’m always missing that to do this email (like I am tonight)! I will try for Timi’s Kite to the Moon show afterwards.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,
