Music This Week June 27th thru July 3rd

Hey there,
WOW!!!  Athfest was a blast. I’m probably 5 pounds lighter from sweating and not having time to eat.  I recorded most of every outdoor stage show and indoors I went until 2 – 2:30AM every night. Again, my apologies to all my friends in the bands I missed, but my focus was to catch as many bands I never heard  or recorded before.
Thanks again to everyone who came up to me and offered kind words for my new web site and also those who gave me hugs, the extra energy you gave me allowed me to make it through Athfest.
It never ceases to amaze me how kind and generous some people are, I’d like to really give a THANK YOU to it an incredible person, Gary Gardner. Gary is Live Music Athens GA’s first benefactor,  I knew he had a Yamaha acoustic guitar for sale. (part of the services I will be offering will be providing equipment to loan musicians). When I told him about this, he donated the guitar to me!!! He also gave me a great price on a second guitar. I am sure you will see Gary’s name again as another service I will be offering is a page with equipment For Sale and Gary knows guitars and he sells them at an incredible price.
More on some of the other things I will be implementing soon, just know that my plan is for the music in Athens to:take over the world!

Athfest and Athens music history tours

Hey there,
Athfest has started! Great shows at the Flagpole awards.
Y’all have a great time! Drink plenty of water, try for a glass of water between a glass of whatever you are drinking. It not only hydrates but helps pace you through the day, you don’t want to miss the late night pub crawls.

Music This Week June 21st thru June 26th, Happy Solstice, my web site is up !!!

Hey there,
Happy Summer Solstice. I am sending this at the exact time of the Solstice to celebrate the official opening of my web site: http://livemusicathensga.com/ !!!
I will be transitioning over to the site over the next few weeks. If this causes you any problems please let me know and I’ll do my best to accommodate you.
This is my first web site so please don’t expect much. I am just starting on a very steep learning curve. I will be doing things with this site that is outside the easy to use software most sites use. Also please let me know about any problems, broken links, bad info, improvements. etc. Thank you.
Music recommendations:
Tonight I’m going to miss Rick Fowler at Loco’s because of the web site launch and because I’m SO far behind. I will catch Timi Conley at Hendershot’s.
Regarding Athfest recommendations – GO! Go to as much of Athfest as you can, all the stages and the pub crawls. If you don’t like the show go to another, that is what Athfest is all about. I’m going to get a wristband but I do that to support Athfest, you can still get into some great late night music that is in bars not associated with Athfest and don’t need a wristband. My favorite show of last year’s Athfest was Efren at GA Bar, over three hours of incredible high energy music and not part of Athfest.
Take your time and go through the Athfest schedule in this week’s Flagpole and try to chart your way, almost everything is within easy stumbling distance. Go to my web site and go through past posts and you will find info on more than half of the bands in Athfest.
Please DON”T DRIVE DRUNK. I’m there start to finish at Athfest so at 2 AM and you find you need a ride, I’m there, please ask. Our city, county and state governments are so broke their only source of income is to prey on the public so expect droves of police everywhere.
Here are some shows not  in Athfest:

ALERT !!! VIRUS in my emails sent with just a link in it DO NOT OPEN!! ALERT !!!

Hey there,
ALERT !!! VIRUS in my emails sent with just a link in it DO NOT OPEN!! ALERT !!!
The subject is Re:  or doesn’t have a subject at all and inside is just a link. To the best of my knowledge I got this Sat. from Dustin of Albatross. I was running out the door to go to the  Bungle in the Jungle and clicked on the link thinking it was something to do with the Bungle since he invited me to it. I run scans every two days on my machines and was going to run them on Sun when I got this email:
Hey Kurt,

I think your email account is send out some unintended stuff.  Often this is
caused by a spyware agent that simply sends things out to everyone in your
address book, and it doesn’t matter if it is web based.  Consider scanning
your computer for viruses. A good live cd for that can be downloaded free
here: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk  This site has an
image file that you can burn into a bootable CD using a normal CD burning
program such as Nero or Roxio. Windows 7 can natively burn CD’s from images
as well.  Simply boot up off the CD while the computer is connected to the
internet and follow the directions on the screen.  This is a good thing to
do because often links such as the one below point to malware sites that
will infect the computers of those who get the email and follow the links
thinking they are something else.  If you need any further assistance in
this, please don’t hesitate to contact me using the info below.

He also recommended two other free services Microsoft’s Security Essentials and Avast. I use Avast you can get it from Cnet.com, run a boot time scan. I also like Eset.com free online scan.
I am so very sorry for any problems this may have caused you.

Video proof that you shouldn’t miss Camp Amped @ Nuci’s Space 7PM Sat 16th

Hey there,
Here is video proof that you shouldn’t miss Camp Amped @ Nuci’s Space 7PM Sat 16th.
This video does a great job showing you the crowded, hot ,sweaty, HIGH energy, FUN time at a Camp Amped show. It doesn’t do justice sonically. These kids are really good musicians and I hope to capture that with my recordings this Sat.
I really wouldn’t think of leaving the Bungle in the Jungle except for a show like this. I hope y’all come out to support these kids and if you can please donate to Nuci’s Space. This is just one of the more visible aspects of all the great work they do there. If nothing else just thank any of the local musicians there who donated their time and talents to make this magic happen.
I hope to see you there.
Peace and Love,

ALERT! Camp Amped show this Sat. June 16th & schedule for Front Porch Book Store

Hey there,

The Camp Amped 2012 Session 1 bands will be showcasing all their hard work at the Grand Finale show.
This show is all ages, free and open to the public, so please come out and show your support!
I believe I already talked about having a clone to go to other shows, here is another example, I am probably going to leave the Bungle in the Jungle long enough to catch this show. If you haven’t been to a Camp Amped show you really ought to go, I highly recommend it. Some of the best musicians in town donate their time teaching an intense two week camp for local school kids, They already know how to play, they are taught how to create a band and perform on stage. 15 to 20 kids under age 16 mix and match to form 8 to 10 bands, there are two stages and the bands alternate between stages and perform a 15 – 20 minute set. Expect HIGH energy levels, sweaty crowded people and TONS of fun! Here is your chance to see the future stars of the Athens music scene (as soon as they are old enough to go into the bars and play)! A Don’t Miss! Now I’m going to need a designated driver to take me there and back to the Bungle.

Rick Fowler Band  Locos Grill & Pub 6-9pm

Timi Conley  Hendershot’s Coffee Bar 8pm

Tonight I’ll start at the Melting Point with the Robert Ellis and Adam Klein’s show, I’ll try to catch the end of Ike’s show over at Hendershot’s after that.  Wednesday is one of those days when I wish I had a clone, I’d love to see both Kenosha kid and Tim Conley but Timi’s got the Tiger Girls and they are a definite tiebreaker, so sorry Kenosha.  On Thursday unless the Old SKool Trio has learned the song Good morning Little Schoolgirl (inside joke) I’ll go over to the Office for the Blues night with the Shadow Executives and definitely will be at Nowhere Bar for the Lakers a new musical collective.Friday I’ll definitely be at the HUMMS at the Georgia Theatre and I’ll try to catch Vincent the Dog and Davis Griffin show at Farm 255 afterwards. Saturday is another day for a clone. I’d definitely send a clone to the farmers market and 8 AM to see Paul Lombard & Driftwood, there is no way I am going to be there at 8 AM. I will definitely be at TheBungle in the Jungle.
I’ll try to catch the Athens A-Train on Sunday at the melting point.  Also I’ll try to catch Abbey Road Live! at Ashford Manor in Watkinsville on Monday.  Tuesday I’ll be at Hendershot’s for Ike Stubblefield’s show then to Long Miles, Quincy Mumford & the Reason Why at Nowhere Bar. I’ll extend my schedule through Wednesday of next week since Athfest starts Thursday.  So next Wednesday I’ll start with the Rick Fowler Band at Loco’s over on Timothy Road and then to Timi Conley at Hendershot’s
I hope to see you all at one time or another during Athfest.  I’m going to .take a different approach to Athfest this year in that I’m going to use this as a learning experience. I only know about two-thirds to three-quarters of the bands in Athens so I’ll be using Athfest to familiarize myself with the rest of the bands in Athens.  I will be going to some of the special shows like CD release parties etc. and special friends shows. I’ll mainly be trying to catch new acts or at least acts I’m unfamiliar with.
I hope to see y’all at the shows.
Peace and Love,

Good news, bad news

Hey there,
The Athens music community has lost another member. This is an email I received yesterday:

To those in the music community that remember Time Toy, Bang, and the Little Tigers:

Paul Hammond, lead guitarist, sax, and bass player at various times in each of these bands, passed away today on 6/5/12 at 4:00pm.  He made many wonderful contributions to Athens music and to the lives of those who knew him. He will be missed.

Mark Williams

I didn’t know him but send my condolences to his friends and family. Peace, love, strength and healing.

There is also something to celebrate this week, Ike Stubblefield is turning 60  tomorrow June 7th. There is a great show / party @ the Melting Point for him. I’ll be there between Tiny Jazz Arkestra and Kite to the Moon shows. I hope you will come by to wish one of Athens biggest music legends a happy 60th birthday.

Peace and Love,
